Community Update

Attention Bayport Blue Point parents! Are you as concerned about safety and the lack of transportation for our students as I am?  Now is the time for us to be  heard.  The Bayport Blue Point school district has recently put out a community wide survey for parents to complete.  Let it be known that buses are essential for our students and parents and that yes, the mileage limits must be lowered.  For example, our current policy only provides buses to our youngest students who reside more than 2 miles from school.  This is way too far for our young children to walk.  We have our youngest children walking up to 2 miles to and from school in hazardous conditions such as crossing over Nicholls Road.  This is a recipe for disaster. Asking for the mileage limits to be lowered is a rational move.  Think about it: all students who attend schools in Hauppauge receive buses if they reside more than 1/4 mile from school.  Students in Connetqout K-3 receive unlimited busing while it is provided to students in grades 4-6 who reside more than 1/2 mile.   Our Sayville neighbors are also receiving buses in K-5 if they are a more than 1/2 mile from school.  Do you see what I mean?  This is just a small list.  Pease take a moment and complete the survey.   Remember, buses are essential and mileage limits must be lowered!!! And of course, you may always voice your concerns at a BOE meeting.
