Viewfinder: Bay Area Friends of the Fine Arts Concert

Area music organization holds monthly concert at middle school.

The Bay Area Friends of the Fine Arts (BAFFA) organization holds monthly concerts at the . Admission is by suggested donation.

At the organization's March concert, the group performed works by Handel, Haydn, and Hindemith.

Started in the early 1970s, BAFFA aims to instill arts education and culture into the community according to Maureen Finnegan, treasurer of BAFFA. "It started mainly because the residents of Bayport wanted more for the high school students that were musicians and singers. They would import people from New York [City] to perform," said Finnegan.

Local artist, Pola Lanzaro, attended the March concert and raffled off one of her paintings to benefit the Gillette House Gallery. The gallery frequently hosts art workshops and showcases work by BAFFA artists as well as organizations such as Women Sharing Art and local schools' work. 

The orchestra rehearses weekly on Wednesday evenings at the school and is currently looking to expand their orchestra.
