Sayville Teen Vocalist Advances in Talent Competition

Sayville freshman Kayla Stockert moves onto second round in talent show competition.

Sayville teenager Kayla Stockert is advancing to the second round of competition in the MSG Varsity Talent Show after her initial performance in round one pulled in a winning number of votes.

"As I was sitting and waiting to hear the result, I was so nervous that I felt my legs shaking," said the teen. "When I finally heard my name announced, I couldn't believe it and started yelling, screaming and celebrating with 20 of my friends and family. The overall MSG Varsity Talent Show experience is one of the coolest things I have ever been a part of," said the high school freshman.

The MSG Varsity’s Talent Show is a weekly series featuring the most talented high school acts in the tri-state area.

Stockert, who sang the Nora Jones ballad “Don’t Know Why,” is one of 16 acts in the Individual Vocalist category and will wait to see who her competition will be once the first round is completed on May 6.

Hosted by former “American Idol” semifinalist Jared Cotter, MSG Varsity’s Talent Show features four performances in the individual vocalist category and two performances in each of the ensemble categories—vocal and dance.

Audience members cast their votes online for their favorite talent in each category with the top performers advancing to the next round.

Winners in each category will be crowned on Sunday, June 3 at 8:00 p.m.
