Releve Dancers Perform at Summerfest

Blue Point's Releve Dance Center dancers perform at Sayville Summer Fest.

On Saturday the sun was shining and so were the tap shoes of 35 dancers from Releve Dance Centre of Bayport.  Dance students performed a series of numbers from all of their competitions – jazz, tap, ballet, hip hop, lyrical and even break dancing routines.

A large audience gathered on Main Street to watch the performance, which lasted for more than an hour. Shannon Murphy, a 16-year-old Releve dancer from Bayport, has been performing at the Summer Fest for seven years.  "It's lots of fun and I love dancing with the crowd so close – their reactions are great," she said.

Releve Dance Centre Owner June Martino said her students have performed at the festival for the past 17 years. "They really enjoy dancing at Summer Fest," she said.

Releve dancer Ali Koinoglou's solo performance elicited cheers from the audience. Koinoglou was one of 150 students chosen from thousands to participate in the Joffrey Ballet School Professional Trainee program, which she will be attending come fall.

One mom in the crowd from Bayport took video of her daughter dancing her set and said, "We come every year to see her dance."

The break dancing performance had the audience clapping to the beat as the dancers showcased their impressive moves, like spinning on their heads.

According to the crowd, the talent of these young dancers from Releve was an incredible addition to Sayville's Summer Fest.
