The "America: The Melting Pot" Fourth of July Parade is taking place on Main Street in Patchogue on Thursday at 10:30 a.m.

The parade is organized by the Patchogue Lions Club, and is starting on Main Street at the West Avenue intersection heading east. The parade will end at the Rider Avenue intersection.

Dan King, a member of the Lions Club who is chairman of the parade and is also going to be its grand marshal, told Patch that he picked the theme to emphasize the diverse nature of Patchogue's community.

King said that parade floats will be eligible for trophies in categories such as most original, closest to the theme, most patriotic, most beautiful and best overall.

This year's honorary mayor and mayoress is Alexander Kietsock and Heather Sponton.
