Here's Your Weekend Guide

Weekend highlights include the kick-off of Family Fridays at The Common Ground.

Family Fridays, a favorite event for Sayville residents, kicks off tonight at The Common Ground with a program called Frogs, Bugs and Animals. Also, Sayville's own Purple Nancy will hold her Ladybug Release. Those in attendance can also meet Jason and touch and learn about his friendly Long Island animals. This event is tonight at The Common Ground at 6:30 p.m.

Also happening tonight is the Full Moon Labyrinth, sponsored by The Common Ground. The labyrinth in Sayville at the Common Ground is called the Peace Labyrinth. Built in 2003, it was designed, laid out, and financed by Marianne Fulfaro and dedicated to her parents, Carlo and Carmela Annunziato.

The labyrinth is a seven circuit, Mini-Chartres design. It is constructed of paving stones with red gravel pathways. When walking, this alternating balancing motion can calm and quiet one's body, mind and spirit often inducing a receptive state for meditation and contemplation in the center of the labyrinth. The event takes place at 8 p.m., weather permitting.

And so the taxpayer is once again asked to give more to an already out of control and bloatedRead More system. Every year the school districts on Long Island receive increases of millions of dollars to their budgets, and still they want to bleed the taxpayer for more. As two income families struggle to pay exorbitant tax bills, we’re asked to pay even more? We’ll here’s a novel idea, how about if the teachers union’s began demanding less? This early retirement baloney must stop, salaries should be capped, administrators and their staffs must be cut by at least eighty percent. In addition, educators and staff should have to pay for their own medical and retirement plans just as the rest of us must. Here on Long Island, families are suffering and sacrificing, and many are being forced to leave due to taxes which are out of control. It is time for educators to cease hiding behind children with threats of decreased student programs, and to make an honest and realistic observation as to why things are as bad as they are. To blame parents for not paying enough into the system to support the schools is ludicrous. The real problem lies in a system which is self serving, and run by incompetents blind to the harm they are inflicting upon our children and families.

It's a drive-through bank.

I heard it was a bank some time ago, but I can't imagine which bank would run a construction projectRead More so poorly.
