Hearts Beat for Arrhythmia Dance Company

Bayport resident establishes dance company that is anything but ordinary.

Caution: Bayport resident and friend create dance company that could cause hearts to wildly beat.

graduate Daniel Longo and his friend Joseph Crescimanno of Farmingville set out in the summer of 2010 to bring the world of dance to as many people as possible, and thus Arrhythmia Dance Company was founded.

Since then, the young duo (both men are in their early twenties) have scored gigs throughout New York, including a recent performance at Bayport-Blue Point High School, and have big plans for the year to come.

With only ten dancers, the nine females and one male who comprise the company were up against some stiff competition to become a member. Longo and Crescimanno serve as Arrhythmia's choreographers and directors.

Arrhythmia's form of dance can range throughout a performance: Dances choreographed by the duo include an ecclectic oratory mix with melodies by Bjork, Ani DiFranco and even cellist, David Darling.

"I've had dances that are straight forward and dances that no one understands," Longo said of some of his choreography. "They Burn Inside Me" is one such artsy number that includes the performer crumbling roses on the stage.

Arrhythmia's first performace, "Number 1" was recently held at Bayport-Blue Point High School for $10 per ticket. The two-act performance was approximately one hour and twenty minutes long and included seven dances, including "Hope Springs Eternal" and "Let's Have a Toast."

In addition to performances like the one in Bayport, Arrhythmia will also choreograph dances for others.  The duo have created dances for the dance teams at numerous State University of New York schools and have also taught a series of "master classes" for the teams.

The near future will be busy for Arrhythmia if Longo and Crescimanno have their way. In September, the duo will hold tryouts for the next season of performances and they are slated to host a dance convention in December.

Arrhythmia is all about perfecting the art of dance, according to the founders.

Longo says the most important thing is to "always out-do yourself."

Knowing this, the future may make Arrhythmia a tough act to follow.
