AS SEEN ON TV, READ IN NEWSDAY, HEARD ON WBAB

- The 6th Annual NY State BBQ Championships will be held this August at the beautiful Maples Bar and Grill in Manorville, Long Island.  This event is a benefit for the John Theissen Children's Foundation. Activities for the public include numerous grilling and BBQ demonstrations, live music, authentic BBQ vendors and a car show. This family friendly event is located just off exit 70 on the Long Island Expressway.

BBQ teams from throughout the northeast will be arriving on Friday, August 3th as they prepare for a weekend of competition and camaraderie. A grilling contest will be held on Saturday, August 4th and the winners of this event will be competing later that day in a special 'winner takes all shootout' against each other and a celebrity chef that will be joining us for this event.

The NY State BBQ Championships will be held on August 5th as the teams compete for the right to represent NY State in prestigious national and invitational events. The categories for this event will be chicken, ribs, pork and brisket. The awards ceremony will be held on Sunday afternoon, as we crown a new NY State Champion.

There is a suggested $3.00 donation suggested to the John Theissen Children's Foundation in lieu of an admission fee. Canned food donations will be accepted at the venue by the Grill Scouts, a competition BBQ team comprised of former Girl Scouts.

And so the taxpayer is once again asked to give more to an already out of control and bloatedRead More system. Every year the school districts on Long Island receive increases of millions of dollars to their budgets, and still they want to bleed the taxpayer for more. As two income families struggle to pay exorbitant tax bills, we’re asked to pay even more? We’ll here’s a novel idea, how about if the teachers union’s began demanding less? This early retirement baloney must stop, salaries should be capped, administrators and their staffs must be cut by at least eighty percent. In addition, educators and staff should have to pay for their own medical and retirement plans just as the rest of us must. Here on Long Island, families are suffering and sacrificing, and many are being forced to leave due to taxes which are out of control. It is time for educators to cease hiding behind children with threats of decreased student programs, and to make an honest and realistic observation as to why things are as bad as they are. To blame parents for not paying enough into the system to support the schools is ludicrous. The real problem lies in a system which is self serving, and run by incompetents blind to the harm they are inflicting upon our children and families.
