Dance Students Wash Cars to Fundraise

American Dance Theatre of Long Island recently held a car wash fundraiser.

Thirty students of The American Dance Theatre of Long Island (ADTLI) recently participated in a car wash fundraiser to benefit their school; drivers on Middle Road could hear the enthusiastic group yelling "car wash" over the noise of traffic on Sunday.

The dance students worked in shifts to wash cars, and drummed up business by standing with "car wash" signs along Middle Road.  While scrubbing cars that pulled in for a cleaning, the students bopped to the music that was playing. With the help of some parents, the group kept the non-stop line of cars moving and shiny.

ADTLI has held two car washes per year for the past eight years, but this was the first time they ever held the event in the parking lot of their studio on the corner of Bayport Avenue and Middle Road. The four way stop sign at this location gave traffic a chance to stop and see their fundraiser, hopefully making it the most successful one yet.

They charged $5 per vehicle, and there was a table of delicious baked goods to browse while waiting.  ADTLI was also selling tickets to their upcoming show, "Summer Celebration of Dance," at The Boulton Center in Bay Shore on August 22 at 7 p.m.  Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased by calling the dance studio.

ADTLI has about 200 students enrolled in their programs for ballet, lyrical and modern dance.  Fundraising is an important part of how they can bring the joy of dancing to everyone in the community, as ADTLI is a nonprofit organization.
