Library Asks Locals to Name That Tune

The event had professional musicians play 24 songs to be identified by the audience.

The Bayport-Blue Point Library put on it's own version of the classic musical quiz show "Name That Tune" on Thursday night in the community room. The audience enjoyed listening to 24 songs performed by professionals. Jan North, the library music programmer who organized the show said, "Everyone is in for a treat, even if you do not guess anything."

The musicians were Dan Fogel, piano; Wendy Fogel, violin and Marianna Benedict, vocals and emcee.  All three are members of the Music Performers Club, a local group.

Dan has been playing piano for 19 years and his mom and Wendy is a violin concert master with a local symphony. Marianna is a soprano opera singer who recently started her own opera company. The three performed together for the first time ever at the event.

They all took turns playing and singing music, ranging from classical music to video game themes, while the audience hummed along trying to name that tune.  When the title was part of the song, Marianna cleverly sang "La, la, la, la" instead of the words.

After each song, people would raise their hand to guess the name of the tune.  When a song title was correctly answered, the winner got to pick a prize out of the prize box that was filled with Bayport-Blue Point Library goodies.

Besides playing all the tunes, the musicians shared lots of tidbits about the history of the songs.
