World Peace Day Celebration Saturday in Sayville

Children and adults are invited to the event at the Common Ground.

A coalition of groups will be participating in a World Peace Day event on Saturday, Sept. 21, the official day of world peace, at the Common Ground in Sayville.

The celebration, which will feature singing, poetry and even a Peace Pole, will run from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The annual celebration has typically been held at the LaGrange property on Broadway Avenue in Sayville. But this year it was moved as a Civil War re-enactment event is taking place at that location.

World Peace is the short name for the International Day of Peace and is dedicated to attaining world peace. It was first celebrated in 1982 on a global basis.  In 2013, for the first time, the Day was dedicated by the Secretary-General of the United Nations to peace education, the key preventive means to reduce war sustainably, according to Wikipedia.

Adults and children are welcome to attend, according to the organizers of the Sayville event.
