Winter Weather Advisory Issued For South Shore

National Weather Service forecasting up to eight inches in next two days.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Western Suffolk County from 6 p.m. Wednesday through 6 p.m. Thursday as a nor'easter chugs towards the south shore of Long Island.

The advisory warns that Western Suffolk County could be in for 2 to 4 inches of snow on Wednesday night and additional snowfall of 1 to 3 inches on Thursday evening as the storm is expected to impact the area twice.

Total storm accumulations for the area are expected to be 6 to 8 inches.

Winds and flooding continue to be major concerns as the storm lingers in the northeast and brings in powerful winds. Winds are expected to be 20 to 30 mph, with gusts from 40 to 50 mph throughout the evening on the coastlines.

A Coastal Flood Advisory also remains in effect for the south shore, calling for tides 2 to 3 feet above normal. Waves along the Atlantic coastline are expected to break at 8 to 14 feet.

A Winter Weather Advisory is issued when periods of snow or freezing precipitation will make driving conditions difficult.

And so the taxpayer is once again asked to give more to an already out of control and bloatedRead More system. Every year the school districts on Long Island receive increases of millions of dollars to their budgets, and still they want to bleed the taxpayer for more. As two income families struggle to pay exorbitant tax bills, we’re asked to pay even more? We’ll here’s a novel idea, how about if the teachers union’s began demanding less? This early retirement baloney must stop, salaries should be capped, administrators and their staffs must be cut by at least eighty percent. In addition, educators and staff should have to pay for their own medical and retirement plans just as the rest of us must. Here on Long Island, families are suffering and sacrificing, and many are being forced to leave due to taxes which are out of control. It is time for educators to cease hiding behind children with threats of decreased student programs, and to make an honest and realistic observation as to why things are as bad as they are. To blame parents for not paying enough into the system to support the schools is ludicrous. The real problem lies in a system which is self serving, and run by incompetents blind to the harm they are inflicting upon our children and families.
