What's Happening at the Libraries: Virtual Book Club, Teen Programs

Sayville-Bayport Patch keeps residents in the loop on local library news and events the week of Jan. 2.

There are events and activities scheduled nearly every day at Bayport-Blue Point and Sayville libraries; kids, teens, adults and families can participate in a variety of fun workshops for a small fee. The Cubby Corner (Children's Book Club) is a place for children to come and enjoy stories. This event is virtual but parents can check out some of the January books selections from Bayport-Blue Point Public Library. Books include: Where the Wild Things Are; Loud Emily; The Fairy-Tale Detectives (The Sisters Grimm #10, and King Matt the First.

Bayport-Blue Point Library's featured film this Movie Monday is Sunset Boulevard, showing at 1 p.m. This NR 90-minute movie stars William Holden, Gloria Swanson and Erich von Stroheim.

The Sayville Library Board holds their meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Pilot club of Sayville meets Wednesday at the library from 6 p.m.-8:30 p.m.

Drop by the for a free blood pressure screening provided by nurses from Sayville's Good Samaritan Nursing Home, from 2 p.m.-3 p.m. on Wednesday.

Advanced Battle of the Books for grades 9 and up starts Wednesday at Sayville Library. Participate in a reading competition against other Suffolk County Libraries: Read a group of books and show off your knowledge as part of the Sayville Library team. Books will be announced and handed out at the first meeting.

Sayville's monthly "Film and Dessert" begins at 1 p.m. on Friday. Join library staff for the film presentation with coffee and dessert.

Bayport-Blue Point Library's Teen Book Club begins at noon on Saturday. Starting off fresh in the New Year, come in January with your favorite book in hand to discuss with the group. February’s theme will be teen romance in celebration of Valentine’s Day. Please see Ms. Riley or Miss Emily if you have any input on future book club dates/times or themes. BPY506

Beginning Yoga at B-BP Library provides the same benefits as any well-designed exercise program by increasing general health and stamina, reducing stress, and improving those conditions brought about by a sedentary lifestyle. For a fee of $10, join the class on Satuday at 10 a.m.
