Video: Sayville Scouts Commemorate Flag Day

Second annual ceremony held at Sayville Library's flag pole.

Local scouts observed Flag Day during the second annual ceremony held in front of the Sayville Library on June 14.

“Last year’s flag day event was a result of the library's flag being destroyed in the two March 2010 winter storms,” said Ed Neale, commissioner of Sayville’s Boy Scout troop 184. “Library Director Alice Lepore asked Allan Heid, the Sayville Troop 184 scoutmaster (and a Sayville Library employee), to donate a new flag. Allan asked me and I said that the troop would donate a beautiful full size flag on Flag Day 2010.”

This year, Boy Scout, Girl Scout and Daisy troops surrounded the flag in front of the library, learned the importance of Flag Day and said the Pledge of Allegiance to commemorate the day.
