Show Love for Returning Troops: Help Decorate W. Sayville-Sayville

It's time to tie a ribbon and give a proper welcome home to the soldiers.

There is a grassroots efforts to welcome home troops from service and West Sayville and Sayville residents are being asked to help out by decorating trees and poles throughout the communities with patriotic ribbons.

The effort, spearheaded by a resident wishing to remain anonymous, has the support of A.C. Moore, the arts supply store, which is helping out by providing discount ribbons via a coupon.

In a letter to Patch, the resident states the goal is full community involvement and to have the communities decorated fully by Memorial Day weekend, kicking off as of this Saturday

The color scheme is red/white/blue and/or yellow ribbons. Residents are advised to use weather resistant bows and to position them as high as possible on trees and poles. Small signs welcoming home soldiers and thanking them for service are also welcome.

The decorations will remain through the 4th of July holiday hopefully, states the letter writer, after which it is hoped residents will do their part to take down the decorations.

And so the taxpayer is once again asked to give more to an already out of control and bloatedRead More system. Every year the school districts on Long Island receive increases of millions of dollars to their budgets, and still they want to bleed the taxpayer for more. As two income families struggle to pay exorbitant tax bills, we’re asked to pay even more? We’ll here’s a novel idea, how about if the teachers union’s began demanding less? This early retirement baloney must stop, salaries should be capped, administrators and their staffs must be cut by at least eighty percent. In addition, educators and staff should have to pay for their own medical and retirement plans just as the rest of us must. Here on Long Island, families are suffering and sacrificing, and many are being forced to leave due to taxes which are out of control. It is time for educators to cease hiding behind children with threats of decreased student programs, and to make an honest and realistic observation as to why things are as bad as they are. To blame parents for not paying enough into the system to support the schools is ludicrous. The real problem lies in a system which is self serving, and run by incompetents blind to the harm they are inflicting upon our children and families.
