"Gnomeo and Juliet" at The Common Ground for Movies Under the Stars.

Movies Under the Stars was held on July 11 at The Common Ground and families gathered with their blankets and snacks to watch the kid-friendly “Gnomeo and Juliet.”

Presented by the South Shore Community Organization (through the Town of Islip), the movie night was the first in a series of free events offered throughout the summer. On July 18, the organization will be hosting Bingo in the Park at Broadway Park in Sayville at 6 p.m.

Many families were there attending the event for the first time. “I wish they would do this every week in the park,” said West Sayville resident Michele Sebor, who was there with her two boys. “It’s a great way to have the family connect, get outside and enjoy the summer.”

Elaine Beisel came from Ronkonkoma with her three little children. “In this economy, it’s great to have this resource available for the kids,” she said. “Although, I wish they would advertise it a little better because I only found out about it by accident.”
