W. Sayville Youth on Mission to Set a Guinness World Record

Ten-year-old Eric Antos is collecting rubber bracelets in record-setting quest.

Eric Antos is on a mission.

His quest is to collect the symbolic and inspirational silicone/rubber bracelets that have become popular in the past few years in an effort to gain entry into the Guinness World Records.

The 10-year-old Sayville youngster, who is an avid Guinness Book reader, embarked on his goal recently and has already collected several bracelets.

“He has always liked the bracelets and he loves the book so he just decided he wanted to do it," said Stacey Antos, Eric's mother. "He sat on the couch and said, 'I wonder what would happen if I collect so many I can be in the book?' I told him if he wants to do it then go for it."

The Cherry Avenue Elementary student, who clearly isn't letting his battle with cystic fibrosis stop him from achieving a world record, and his mother reached out to the Guinness book publishers for the needed paperwork to officially apply. According to the book's website there is no record as yet for having the top number of rubber bracelets.

Readers who may want to help with the quest can drop the bracelets off at Once Upon a Child in Sayville, a gentle used children's clothing shop located at 5640-80 Sunrise Highway (next to Sayville Bowl), or send them via regular mail to 126 Joni Drive, West Sayville, NY 11796.

And so the taxpayer is once again asked to give more to an already out of control and bloatedRead More system. Every year the school districts on Long Island receive increases of millions of dollars to their budgets, and still they want to bleed the taxpayer for more. As two income families struggle to pay exorbitant tax bills, we’re asked to pay even more? We’ll here’s a novel idea, how about if the teachers union’s began demanding less? This early retirement baloney must stop, salaries should be capped, administrators and their staffs must be cut by at least eighty percent. In addition, educators and staff should have to pay for their own medical and retirement plans just as the rest of us must. Here on Long Island, families are suffering and sacrificing, and many are being forced to leave due to taxes which are out of control. It is time for educators to cease hiding behind children with threats of decreased student programs, and to make an honest and realistic observation as to why things are as bad as they are. To blame parents for not paying enough into the system to support the schools is ludicrous. The real problem lies in a system which is self serving, and run by incompetents blind to the harm they are inflicting upon our children and families.
