Sayville vs. Sunset Beach, N.C.: Cheaper Housing But Lower Salaries

In fact everything costs less, from utilities to healthcare.

Ever wonder how far your paycheck would go if you weren't living on Long Island, but say living in another state such as North Carolina?

According to Sperling's Best Places web site, Sayville residents would save big bucks on housing if they were to move to Sunset Beach in North Carolina.

But then again that'd be necessary given that a salary of $50,000 would likely drop to about $36,000 to $37,000 in that area.

Yet a lower salary isn't necessarily a bad thing since cost of living expenses are quite a bit less in Sunset Beach.

Housing is 44% cheaper in Sunset Beach than in Sayville. In fact everything from utilities to food costs to medical costs are cheaper in Sunset Beach. So that lost of $10K to $15K in salary is a bit negated.

Does the allure of cheaper housing costs have you considering moving out of Sayville or Bayport? Share below in the comments.
