"My class is not a traditional format," Kanowsky said. "I give a demonstration and then you use the materials here to create your own gift."

"It's a great economical opportunity for unexpected gifts. There can be people in the community such a your child's bus driver, gym teacher, people you work with these are perfect for," he added.

Kanowsky bought the jars at Specialty Bottle.

"They literally have anything related to bottles that you can think of; it's a wonderful source," Kanowsky said.

"I'm really enjoying myself tonight, I think he's a very good instructor and I'm happy that I will have a jar to take home," said Pat, a Sayville resident who attended the class with friends.

Kanowsky has offered other classes at Sayville Library in the past, which included lessons on mozzarella, ravoli and pizza. Since 2004, he has done catering for small events, which eventually grew into a business he started with his wife, Krysta.
