Queenie Heading to a Loving Home Today

Neglected Canine Corso is back in good health thanks to Grady Animal Hospital in Sayville.

The neglected Cane Corso found near death just about two weeks ago has recuperated thanks to Grady Animal Hospital in Sayville and is going to a new home today.

Queenie, found starved and dehydrated after nearly three weeks of neglect, was rescued Feb. 23 by the Guardians of Rescue. The dog had been locked in a room in an overheated apartment and had no care, food or water. The Suffolk County SPCA have charged Queenie’s owner, a Coram resident, with animal cruelty.

“She laid alone, just dying,” said President and Founder of Guardians of Rescue, Robert Misseri, in a press statement. “Literally, her body was just wasting away and she has had to fight for her life.”

That fight has been greatly aided by Grady Animal Hospital and an outpouring of community support by animal lovers incensed about the neglect she endured.

“[She was] basically a skeleton, and couldn’t even walk when she came in,” Dr. Mark Caporaso said, “She’s made a remarkable recovery.”

Queenie is enjoying eating, playing and walks and has gained 23 pounds since being first admitted. She will leave Grady Animal Hospital today to go to her new home with a rescue volunteer from Guardians of Rescue.
