Post Sandy: Sayville Foster Beach is as Beautiful as Ever

It's hard to recall seeing the docks submerged and water knee high at end of Foster Avenue in Sayville a year ago.

If you drove down to the end of Foster Avenue in Sayville right now you'd see what you'd always expect: the gorgeous Great South Bay and the wonderful marina and dock walk where residents love to sit and enjoy the view and the sounds of the beach.

But just a year ago that scenic opportunity was lost thanks to super storm Sandy which created such an intense beach surge that the walking boardwalk was under several feet of water with just the tops of the benches barely discernible.

The bay surged north on Foster up nearly two blocks, decimating two small beach cottages on the bay front that still remain shuttered and fenced in since they are now structurally unsound.

While some homeowners only dealt with flooding and yard damage, some other homes were devastated to the point of being nearly unrecognizable. Rebuilding on one particular home has been going on all year and the homeowner raised the house over 10 feet to hopefully avoid such damage from future storms.
