The New York State DOT has begun a repair project on the Ronkonkoma Avenue Bridge overpass at the Long Island Expressway, a project that will cause some lane closures and alterations on that stretch of interstate for a little more than a week.

Newsday reported that the DOT intends to shift the LIE lanes in both directions between exits 60 and 63 during the daytime, and fully close the expressway in that section between 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays. According to the report, the project will cost approximately $2.6 million and began last Sunday.

"Repairing the Ronkonkoma Avenue Bridge now will give it a longer life span, improve safety for drivers, and save the taxpayers money," Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said in a news release published by Newsday.
