  • Ava is a fifth grader who was elected by her classmates to serve as a Lincoln Avenue “classroom senator.” The success in this election made Ava eligible to run for a higher office within the government. Ava campaigned and lost, however there was a campaign promise she still wished to fulfill. During her campaign speech, Ava had promised, if elected president, to raise funds for leukemia, as she was interested in helping a student within the school who was suffering with the disease. Ava organized third, fourth and fifth graders in making keychains during their recess periods. As chairperson of this Lincoln Avenue subcommittee, she successfully gained support from her schoolmates in creating posters, developing and delivering morning announcements, and selling the key chains during evening events. Her time and energy toward this effort has continued for months. Ava is clearly a compassionate young lady who has demonstrated strong leadership skills. She has demonstrated enthusiasm and great initiative in her dedication to serving others.
