Local Author Hands Readers a Healthier Life at Book Signing

Robin DeNicola of Blue Point used her knowledge of fitness to write a book on healthy living.

Local fitness trainer Robin DeNicola has recently penned her first self-published book titled Rockin' Robin's Handbook to a Healthier Life. At a recent book signing at in Bayport, she took a few moments to discuss healthy habits, exercise, and of course, the book.

Based on her life experiences as well as articles she has written for the Bayport-Blue Point Gazette, the "Handbook" is a positive and upbeat guide that encourages the readers to enjoy a healthier lifestyle.

DeNicola, who has written for the Gazette for the past six years, said she has always received positive feedback on her articles. "I felt so good about the fact that I was helping people to be healthier. When people started encouraging me to turn [my experiences] into a book...I just went for it," she said.

The book covers a large variety of topics on exercise, health, nutrition and food preparation in detail while keeping it simple and personal to the reader. DeNicola notes that while she has been exercising her whole life, each individual should begin slowly and work at their comfort level.

As owner of Rockin' Robin's Fitness Center in Blue Point, DeNicola practices what she preaches. A certified personal trainer, she teaches private, semi-private, and small group personal training. This involves a variety of regimens, such as cardio-strength training or circuit training.

DeNicola cautions though, "It's not just about the training. It's about total health. My main concern is to make people healthier, not necessarily thinner." Becoming thinner is a very possible bonus though and DeNicola provides a variety of recipes to further aid readers in making healthier choices.

The book is currently available for sale at the fitness center or on Amazon.com. There are plans in progress for a second book.
