LIPA Working to Restore Power to Bayport- Blue Point

Photos showing LIPA workers diligently working to decrease the number of power outages in the area.

Snapped trees and damaging winds caused a good portion of Bayport and Blue Point to blackout after Hurricane Irene swept across the area.

As of Thursday, Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) reported that there are 123 homes in Blue Point and 37 homes in Bayport still without power. That's a big jump from the more than 2,000 homes listed on Monday's outage list.

LIPA has been working around the Bayport-Blue Point area; residents have reported regular sightings of trucks and workers. Irene's damage was so extensive that many LIPA employees are working 16-hour shifts in their effort to restore power to Long Island.
