Library Roof Reconstruction Underway

Project to repair damage from March windstorm expected to be completed in about three weeks.

During a windstorm on March 13 the roof of the was damaged and it was later determined that the roof was not properly adhered to the building. Now, long-awaited repairs will be made.

"The goal is to get this [roof] made more sound all around.  There's a lot red tape involved," said John D. O'Hare, library director.

Since the total cost of the project to fix the roof is more than $20,000, the library was required to get approval from the New York State Department of Education before proceeding. "That is why it's taking so long.  There are a lot of permissions that have to be given before we do this," explained O'Hare.

To help offset the cost, the library received a state grant of $15,000.

With state ed approval now in hand, Sunation Roofing Service, Inc., of Oakdale will be repairing the roof. Sunation was one of 10 companies to bid on the job, which will take about three weeks to complete.
