Grab & Go Kids Planner: St. Pat's Parade, Yarn Dolls and Bowling

Always on a quest for something to do with your children? Each week Patch brings you a list of kid-friendly events in Bayport-Blue Point and nearby.

We've assembled a weekly calendar of kid-friendly activities and new places to try with children.

Families today are time-pressed, so Patch is happy to do the research and find the best things to do and places to go, both locally and within reasonable driving distance.

  • Meet the Parade Characters - March 11, 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. 

 Community Room

Get a preview of Bayport-Blue Point St. Patrick's Day Parade. Bring your children and meet the book characters that will be marching with the library - Froggy, Ladybug Girl and Lily. There will also be games and puzzles for the kids. Don't forget to get an autograph from your book friends. There is no registration for this free and fun event.

  • Make It Take It Yarn Doll - March 12, 10 a.m. - Noon

Michael's, Gateway Plaza 499 Sunrise Highway, Patchogue 631-447-1110

Create a simple yarn doll with children ages 3 and up, while supplies last.  There is no charge for this event.

  • Bowlopolis League - March 12, 1 p.m.

Bowl Long Island at Patchogue, 138 West Avenue, Patchogue 631-475-5164 Club@BowlLongIsland.Com

Join P.A.L. bowling league for children ages 5-12.  League runs for 10 weeks, starting on Saturday, March 12.  Registration fee is $13 and weekly fee is $10 - which includes two games of bowling, shoe rental, P.A.L. tee shirt, Bowlopolis DVD and participation award.

  • Bayport-Blue Point Chamber of Commerce 21st Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade - March 13, 11:30 a.m.

Set up early along the parade route that kicks off from Snedecor Avenue in Bayport, goes along Montauk Highway to end at Blue Point Avenue in Blue Point.  This parade gets bigger every year so bring snacks, blankets and wagons to keep the kids comfortable.

  • Teen Internet Cafe - March 14, 4-6 p.m.

Bayport-Blue Point Library

Teens in grades 6-12 can hang out with their friends.  Have a snack, socialize, do homework and access the Library's Wi-Fi.  There is no registration or fee for this program.

  • No School - March 14

Recover from the parade and the long winter by taking your children to any of the local playgrounds to get some fresh air and fun.  Bayport Beach - the end of Paulanna Avenue, Madison Street Park - corner of Madison Street and Davis Avenue in Blue Point, at the end of Corey Avenue in Blue Point. 

  • Teens Speak March Meeting - March 14, 4-5 p.m.

Bayport-Blue Point Library

Register teens in grades 6-12 for this program.  It will be an afternoon to discuss some new books, games, snacks and a chance to win a raffle prize.
