Grab & Go Kids Planner: Sailboats, Tennis and Dancing

Always on a quest for something to do with your children? Each week Patch brings you a list of kid-friendly events in the community..

We've assembled a weekly calendar of kid-friendly activities and new places to try  with children.

Families today are time-pressed, so Patch is happy to do the research and find the best things to do and places to go, both locally and within reasonable driving distance.

The kids are off from school this week and the Grab & Go planner has lots of activities to keep them busy.

  • Maritime and Winter Programs

This program is for children first through fifth grade and costs $15 per child, per class.  All children must wear art and weather appropriate clothing.  Classes are from 10 a.m. - noon.

  • Bouncing Fun - Open Play

Instead of having the kids bouncing off the walls at your house bring them to Pump It Up and have them bounce there.  Two full hours of play for $12.95 per child and look for coupons on their Facebook page. Call to make reservations.

  • Young Adult Indoor Sports - Feb. 24, 4 p.m.-4:45 p.m.

Teens in sixth through twelfth grade can go down to the library for some heart pumping activities.  The class, which is designed specially for teens, is a guaranteed great work out, including  indoor football and much more.  You must pre-register for this program..

  • Boys Winter Tennis Invitational - Feb. 25, 5 p.m.-10 p.m.

Join Bayport-Blue Point Community Tennis Association and for JV and Varsity pre-season play.  It will be round robin style match play and tie breakers.  Cost is $20 per player or $40 a team and includes raffles, beverages and trophies.  All proceeds benefit that provides high quality-low cost tennis to the community.  Register online at www.bbpcommunitytennis.org.

  • Charlie St. Cloud PG-13 - Feb. 25, 6 p.m.-8 p.m.

Teens in sixth through twelfth grade can enjoy the PG-13 movie "Charlie St. Cloud." The library supplies popcorn and drinks. No registration necessary.

  • Read Across America - Feb. 26, 9 a.m.-11 a.m.

Celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday with a free storytime with all his classic books.  There will also be giveaways, coupons and other reading-related fun.

  • Day of Dance For Your Health - Feb. 26, Noon-3 p.m.

Bring your family and friends to dance, learn simple ways to stay healthy, enjoy music and participate in health screenings.

  • Make a Flower Fairy and Her Magical Garden - Feb. 26, 3 p.m.

An afternoon of flower fun.  Children must pre-register for this class.  $10 per child and there is a family discount to register two or more children for $7.50 per child.

  • Library Museum Passes

Reserve a library museum family pass for free admission to The American Museum of Natural History, Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum both in Manhattan; Children’s Museum, Garden City; Whaling Museum Cold Spring Harbor; Vanderbilt Museum and Planetarium, Centerport; and the Long Island Museum, Stony Brook.  Stop by the Reference desk for more information.

  • Reading with Callie - March 1, 3 p.m.-6 p.m.

Do your children love animals? Story books? If your youngsters are elementary-age, sign them up for half-hour appointments to read books to Callie - the "reading dog" at this Tuesday, March 1.  Callie- a friendly Golden Retriever- patiently sits with children in as they read stories to her.
