Friends, neighbors and business team up to help Frannie Columbine after his house was damaged by super storm Sandy.

A fundraiser to help lifelong Blue Point resident Frannie Columbine will be held Friday night, November 16, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Harbor Crab in Patchogue. There will be 50/50 raffles and other raffle items.

Columbine's home was severely damaged by super storm Sandy and friends and neighbors have been helping him restore and replace all the damaged household furnishings including windows to furniture. The donation effort needs building materials as well as household supplies. Donations can be made payable to the Bayport-Blue Point Foundation in honor of Columbine. And so the taxpayer is once again asked to give more to an already out of control and bloatedRead More system. Every year the school districts on Long Island receive increases of millions of dollars to their budgets, and still they want to bleed the taxpayer for more. As two income families struggle to pay exorbitant tax bills, we’re asked to pay even more? We’ll here’s a novel idea, how about if the teachers union’s began demanding less? This early retirement baloney must stop, salaries should be capped, administrators and their staffs must be cut by at least eighty percent. In addition, educators and staff should have to pay for their own medical and retirement plans just as the rest of us must. Here on Long Island, families are suffering and sacrificing, and many are being forced to leave due to taxes which are out of control. It is time for educators to cease hiding behind children with threats of decreased student programs, and to make an honest and realistic observation as to why things are as bad as they are. To blame parents for not paying enough into the system to support the schools is ludicrous. The real problem lies in a system which is self serving, and run by incompetents blind to the harm they are inflicting upon our children and families.
