Curves Is Losing It... Again

Sayville Curves is doing another Biggest Loser contest to get it's members fit for spring.

Sayville may be in the middle of a deep winter freeze, but is thinking ahead to the warmer months. The contest is back and was kicked off last Thursday with an open house. The members of Curves will be getting fit and healthy for spring.

In the last contest that ended in December, 207 pounds were shed by the ladies of Curves. Owner Sharon Boyle said, “Our contests have been so successful.  Everyone has been begging me to do it again, even before the last one was over.”

All members of Curves can join in the 10 week competition. Once a week, participants will have a weigh in and the top ten losers of that week will be posted in the gym. At the end of the contest in April the overall winner will be calculated.

Each week, participants will be able to earn raffle tickets by working out three times a week, attending a Curves weight management class, doing Curves with Zumba or brining a friend to work out. Boyle is also asking everyone to donate a raffle by checking their attic for a treasure or re-gifting something.

Sayville resident Anna Duggan is a part of the Biggest Loser and has agreed to have her progressed followed by Patch. She did the contest before and lost 5 pounds.  Duggan said, “I need to lose another 10 pounds – summer is coming.”  She plans on going to Curves at least three times a week and taking their new Zumba classes.  “And of course I am going to cut down and watch what I eat, but I am not doing any particular diet,”  she said.

According to Boyle, the Curves workout can fit into anyone’s schedule with the 30 minutes circuit and Boyle always has something extra going on like the walking club, weight management classes and Zumba.

The walking club is free, even if you are not a member of Curves and they meet once a week in the warmer months for a brisk walk down to the bay.

There is no charge for the weight management class at Curves. Even non-members can attend this hour long class to learn metabolism boosting tips and recipes.

Boyle is really excited about Curves teaming up Zumba Fitness. “In 30 minutes, you can burn up to 500 calories doing the Curves circuit with Zumba.”  Classes are Tuesdays 8 a.m., 4:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. and Thursdays at 8 a.m., 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.  On Fridays at 6 p.m. there is an hour long Zumba class that is open to non-members.  The cost is $10 a class or $45 for seven classes.

Boyle is also offering all members a special deal to join Curves.
