Brookhaven Conducts Emergency Demolition of Condemned Blue Point House

Brookhaven Town held a press conference at 14 Buffin Lane, Blue Point, immediately followed by the demolition of the former home.

The Town of Brookhaven on Tuesday demolished the condemned house at 14 Buffin Lane in Blue Point following a press conference on the dangers this former home posed to youngsters looking for a place to hang out and the blight it inflicted on the dead end street.

Located north of Montauk Highway, this building has been an eyesore in the area for several years. A neighbor who declined to give her name told Patch that the building collapsed three years ago, and said she brought pictures of the blighted former home to town hall more than five years ago.

Brookhaven Town Supervisor Mark Lesko said the town has received "tons of complaints" from the community regarding this property. The property owner cooperated with the town in this initiative, and allowed them to demolish the building and bill her for the cost of the demolition on her tax bill. The debris will be removed to the landfill.

This demolition project was a coordinated effort with the town’s Quality of Life Task Force. The house was recently deemed unsafe by the Town of Brookhaven. Bay Shore-based Panzner Demolition conducted the demolition.

Lifelong Blue Point resident Councilman Timothy P. Mazzei said he is very familiar with this particular street, as his relatives used to reside on Buffin Lane and the surrounding area. Mazzei serves the town's 5th district, representing Blue Point, Patchogue, Bellport, East Patchogue, Medford and Holtsville.
