Bayport-Blue Point Library Launches August Art Exhibit

August's art exhibit at the library features the work of local artists.

Bayport-Blue Point Public Library's August art exhibit features the work of Brookhaven Arts and Humanities Council members, as well as the work of other local artists.

August's exhibit, which is part of the library's year-round effort to feature different exhibits each month, has a summer theme. "These exhibits are an opportunity for local artists to show their work," said Gary Kersetter, a reference librarian at Bayport-Blue Point Public Library.

Hanging in the hall gallery by the rear entrance of the library is an exhibit arranged by Gay Gatta, a board member of the Brookhaven Arts and Humanities Council, a Farmingville-based nonprofit organization.

Jim Connell of the Bayport Heritage Association has set up a Meadow Croft Estate display in the east hall case with information on activities and summer tour schedules. This display also features photographs of the Meadow Croft Estate, house and gardens.

The west hall exhibit space features Dona Roberts' dolls, who are dressed in native costumes and set against a backdrop of maps, to depict worldwide summer vacations.

Dorothy Hahn has put her lighthouse collection on display in the LeCluse case.

Gatta said this exhibit is "great for the artists because they can have their work seen. It's also wonderful for the libraries, as the exhibit helps to draw more patrons in."
