Ash Wednesday Services at Local Churches Today

Ash Wednesday is celebrated with services in which the faithful are marked with an ash cross on the forehead.

The season of Lent ends with Good Friday and Easter.

Here is the Ash Wednesday mass schedule at St. Lawrence on Handsome Avenue in Sayille, according to its website:


12 Noon - Prayer Service
4:00pm - Prayer Service
7:30pm - Mass

Our Lady of the Snow in Blue Point will hold services tonight at 4:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. in the large church on Blue Point Avenue. For more information you can check the parish's website.

And so the taxpayer is once again asked to give more to an already out of control and bloated…Read More system. Every year the school districts on Long Island receive increases of millions of dollars to their budgets, and still they want to bleed the taxpayer for more. As two income families struggle to pay exorbitant tax bills, we’re asked to pay even more? We’ll here’s a novel idea, how about if the teachers union’s began demanding less? This early retirement baloney must stop, salaries should be capped, administrators and their staffs must be cut by at least eighty percent. In addition, educators and staff should have to pay for their own medical and retirement plans just as the rest of us must. Here on Long Island, families are suffering and sacrificing, and many are being forced to leave due to taxes which are out of control. It is time for educators to cease hiding behind children with threats of decreased student programs, and to make an honest and realistic observation as to why things are as bad as they are. To blame parents for not paying enough into the system to support the schools is ludicrous. The real problem lies in a system which is self serving, and run by incompetents blind to the harm they are inflicting upon our children and families.
