#93 - Looking to Play in Bayport and Blue Point?

There are three local waterfront playgrounds for children to enjoy.

We know Bayport-Blue Point residents may think they know everything that's going on in the area, but there are events, programs and places that even a lifelong resident may not be aware of. Bayport-Blue Point Patch wants to highlight all that's fun, interesting and new in B-BP so residents can take advantage of the opportunities for entertainment our community offers. Every other week, we'll post something to try in the area, eventually counting down to #1.

This week, we focus on fun places for children to play: Playgrounds.

It's the middle of summer vacation and the kids are driving you nuts.  Take them to any of the three playgrounds in the area to burn up some of that energy.

Bayport has a playground at the end of Paulanna Avenue at Bayport Beach. The playground is just west of the beach and the surface is sand. There is climbing equipment, slides, swings, and baby swings.  When the kids are done with the playground they can play in the sand, walk on the dock to the gazebo or swim in the bay beach with lifeguards on duty. Benches and restrooms are also available at this playground.

To park at Bayport Beach you need a Town of Islip recreation card, which is $25 for three years. Bring your drivers license and a tax or utility bill to Brookwood Hall at 50 Irish Lane in East Islip purchase the recreation card.

In Blue Point there are two playgrounds, both with a water view too.  Corey Beach North is on Madison Street and Davis Avenue. This playground has climbing equipment, slides, swings and baby swings. It is sometimes referred to by local children as helicopter park because there is a large helicopter toy they all love to play on.

Corey Beach North is right on a marina with lots of open space for children to run. To keep everyone safe there is a four foot fence around the perimeter with only two openings.  There are also picnic tables and benches, but no restroom. The surface of Corey Beach North is rubber chips and grass. The nice thing about this playground, especially in the summer, is there are lots of trees that provide shade.

The other playground in Blue Point is at Corey Beach at the end of Corey Avenue. This playground was recently renovated with a nautical theme and is great for kids of all ages. A play boat for little ones is lots of fun and there is a huge piece of play equipment shaped like a boat with high slides and climbing for big kids. Regular swings and baby swings also keep children busy. Corey Beach has benches, restrooms, lifeguards on duty and has sand a play surface. Do not forget sand toys because there is plenty of beach to play on.

Corey Beach is maintained by Brookhaven Town, so you must have a drivers license and an automoblie registration in the Town of Brookhaven to get into the parking lot. There is open parking on the street, but those few spots fill up quickly at this popular beach.
