It's Wednesday, August 7 and the weekend seems a long way off.
But that's no reason not to interject some fun to hurdle the mid-week blues.
Here are five things readers can do without having to leave town:
1. Buy a Powerball ticket as the lottery game stands at $400M given no winner last Saturday. As they say, you have to be in it to win it, and how often have we read that winners had just stopped in on a whim and grabbed a ticket.
2. Head down to Corey Beach and take a dip and then treat yourself to something yummy at Flo's.
3. Treat yourself and a friend to Waffle Wednesday at the Bayport Berry Fresh fro-yo mecca.
4. Or if ice cream is your preferred summer treat, head over to Carvel in Bayport or Sayville and take advantage of the BOGO special offered on classic sundaes as "Wednesday is Sunday."
5. As the day looks to be more cloudy than sunny, stop in and explore the local library. Both the Bayport-Blue Point Library and Sayville Library have great displays to check out, as well as a wide range of new movies and books to be enjoyed.
