The first installment of Sayville-Bayport Patch’s Visions for Vacancies on Monday asked readers to share their thoughts on what they would like to see fill the current vacancy at Coming Home to Country.
Several readers offered feedback in the story’s comment section. One reader suggested a gourmet sandwich shop and another said a music store. Reader Denise Karl is sure of what business she doesn't want to see at the location.
"Anything but another blasted bank!" she stated, referring to the ongoing construction of two new banks in the Sayville-Bayport area (TD, Sayville and People's United, Bayport).
Karl added that a good old-fashioned "5-and-10" would be great.
"What I would love to see in many towns across the country is a "Made in USA" store where there is a multitude of products, but all goods are made here. Pipe dream I know."
Other reader feedback included:
Maureen - We have one of the best music departments on Long Island but no music store. A music store right here in Sayville would be great.
Nicholas Catalano - A gourmet sandwich and soup shop!
Steve - A family deli would be awesome. Paul's Deli I believe was the business at this very same location back in the 60s and 70s. I'd prefer to see a deli similar to Paul's open up.
Jennifer Travaglia - What about a wine bar? There's one in Northport and it's always packed.

There is a deli in the Carvel parking lot, "3 Generations Deli" -- good food and workers/owners are freindly!!

I would love to see a local pet store, not a grooming place or vet, but somewhere you can buy goldfish and chew bones for dogs.

Since we have so many artists in this area, an art supply store would be so wonderful. Aside from AC Moore, we have no fine art supplies and have to buy online and pay shipping charges. I think the high rent for the buildings has depleted our town and discouraged new renters. Hopefully, someone will come up with a unique idea.
