Time Running Out for Citizens Bank

New signs prepped, as People's United Bank readies takeover of Stop & Shop branches.

A week ago, Patch reported that the Citizens Bank branches in Long Island Stop & Shop locations would be converted to People's United by month's end.

Now we have the signage to prove it.

In the last week, People's began the not-so-behind-the-scenes work of swapping out Citizens green with People's blue and red.

At the Sayville Stop & Shop location, the People's sign is already set up, thinly covered by a Citizens banner.

People's cracked the Long Island market when it for $60 million in 2010. That acquisition gave People's 29 branches in the Nassau-Suffolk market. It has now grown to 33 locations here, most recently opening a branch on Montauk Highway in Bayport.

People's is also no stranger to supermarket banking. It already operates 87 Stop & Shop branches in Connecticut, where it has had supermarket branches since 1995.
