Sirico Steps In as QB as Sayville Runs Down Kings Park 41-14

Golden Flashes take home win Saturday in quarterfinals.

Sayville's Zach Sirico filled in for injured quarterback Steven Ferreira on Saturday, obliterating Kings Park in a dominating first half as the Golden Flashes cruised to a 41-14 in the county quarterfinals.

Ferreira, still recovering from a broken nose he suffered against Kings Park, played scarcely throughout the game, while still passing for one touchdown and running himself for two. Sirico, who played quarterback for the first half, scored a TD on Sayville's first offensive play of the game, running it in for 60 yards and wasting no time as they took an early 7-0 lead over the Kingsmen at Sayville High School.

Sayville scored again on its second drive as Sirico completed a 20-yard pass to Tom Hannan for a 14-0 lead at 6:26 in the first quarter. The Kingsmen were forced to punt their first three possessions, and Ferreira would make his first appearance for the Golden Flashes late in the first quarter. He went 0-for-3 on the drive, with three pass attempts to Rupp that went uncompleted.

Ferreira ran in for his first TD of the game on the first play of the second quarter, a 3-yard TD run at 11:48 to put Sayville up 21-0. Kings Park ran for 30 yards on the next possession, and with the help of two Sayville penalties, made it downfield.

However, Kings Park QB Joe Guercio threw an interception to Hannan in the end zone, allowing Sayville's John Haggart to run his first TD of the game, a 65-yard run at 7:24 of the second quarter to push Sayville's lead to 27-0. Ferreira would run in for another TD at 3:39 to make it 34-0 before throwing a 68-yard pass to James Rupp for a TD, making it 41-0 before the end of the first half.

The Golden Flashes didn't score for the rest of the game, as they kept both Ferreira and Sirico out for the second half to rest. Connor O'Neil took over quarterback duties but didn't lead his team to any points as the Kingsmen put up two touchdowns in the second half. The game ended at 41-14 and the Kingsmen finished the year with a 4-5 record.

Sayville will host No. 6 Harborfields in a semifinal matchup this Saturday at 1 p.m.
