PTA Planner - Breakfast with a Leprechaun

This weekly column spotlights the Parent-Teacher Associations in the district with articles, interviews and photographs.

A Parent-Teacher Association is an organization where parents, teachers and administrators all work together for the benefit of the students. With a PTA for every school in the Bayport-Blue Point School District, it can be tough to keep track of all the events. This new weekly column provides residents with information on PTA happenings, and highlights the efforts of the organization to enhance the community through events that are fun, educational and charitable.

Irish eyes were smiling and eating green bagels on Saturday morning at Sylvan Avenue PTA’s Breakfast with the Leprechaun.  This annual event is always held the day before the Bayport-Blue Point St. Patrick’s Day parade.

PTA committee chair Tara Ingber said, “This was my first year doing the breakfast and there is a great turn out.  It is a really fun event.”

The cafeteria was a sea of green while parents and children ate breakfast listening to Irish music.  There were also lots of St. Patrick’s Day crafts and games.  The leprechaun mingled with the kids, handing out gold wrapped chocolate coins, green necklaces and shamrock stickers.

At the end of the morning four traditional Irish step dancers in authentic dresses took to the stage to show of their talents.  It was a wonderful way to kick off a St. Patrick’s Day parade weekend.

Here is what is planned for the upcoming week.
