Police ID Blue Point Woman Killed in LIE Crash

The driver killed in multi-vehicle pileup Wednesday identified as Christa Zepf.

Blue Point resident Christa Zepf, 68, has been identified as the driver killed in Wednesday's massive vehicle crash on the LIE that involved over 30 cars and a tractor trailer.

Thirty three people were injured in the crash that took place just west of the William Floyd Parkway at 2:38 p.m. According to police, Raymond Simoneau, 42, of Rockingham, Vermont, was driving a tractor-trailer eastbound on the LIE when his vehicle struck a number of cars.

Zepf was driving a Toyota Camry eastbound on the LIE when her vehicle was involved in the crash.

Following the initial collision, a chain-reaction crash occurred and a total of 35 vehicles were involved. The tractor-trailer, which was carrying storm debris, and two additional vehicles caught fire and were extinguished by fire department personnel.

The LIE was closed in both directions between exit 66 and exit 69 and the roadway was reopened Thursday morning.
