Nine Sayville Seniors Joining Military After Graduation

School district recognizes seniors for their dedication.

The Sayville Board of Education recently recognized nine Sayville students joining the military upon graduation.

Petty Officer Liberty Borek, from the Navy Recruiting District-NY, presented one of the students, Daniel Siegel, with a check. Daniel Siegel was awarded a $180,000, 4-year NROTC scholarship to attend RPI (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute) followed by service in the Navy.

Siegel recently joined eight other graduating seniors from Sayville who have made a commitment to our country and the freedoms we all enjoy. Those eight students are Eric Abrahall, Christopher Bailey, Justin Bonamico, Christopher Capone, Timothy Carey, Christopher Dyroff, Gregory Fountain, and Daniel Ryder and they were recognized at the Academic Awards Night for Sayville Seniors which was held day prior to the board meeting.

During that evening celebration of excellence, these eight students were honored with a special initiation ceremony, presided over by General Dennis Fagan (former Sayville High School Technology teacher), Captain Michael Huggins (current High School History teacher) and Sayville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 433 former Commander Michael Alcabes.

The Sayville School district and community thank all these students for their anticipated military service.
