Music Video in the Vines

Local pianist JK Hodge stars in music video set at Loughlin Vineyards; Director's past clients include Puff Daddy and Fat Joe.

Meadowcroft's Loughlin Vineyards recently served as the background for pianist and Bayport resident JK Hodge's premiere music video - Could there be a more perfect setting for an artist who describes his music as "quieting your soul?"

Probably not.

The video's director Tony Segreto, who owns VigilanteHD, a production company based in Oakdale, has worked with recording artists Fat Joe and Sean "Puffy" Combs in the past. Hodge counts Segreto as a friend and quickly signed Segreto's assitant director JP Panetta onto the project.

For "Keys to the Soul," a track off Hodge's albumn Anatomy of a Piano Player, Segreto says he tried to "capture Jay's warmth and freindliness."

Hodge played the song a total of six times during the three hour shoot.

The Bayport born-and-bred musician wrote  Keys to the Soul along with ten of the other thirteen tracks on the album; the other two tracks are rock covers.  Hodge does not use vocals and says he turns rock anthems into light piano music by picking out the piano that the tone-deaf among us can't hear.

"People don't recognize that music like Guns and Roses has alot of piano in it," Hodge said.

The video for Keys to the Soul will be finished with editing by mid-July.  Then, Hodge will feature the video on his youtube page for promotion.

Hodge has been playing at Loughlin Vineyard for the past year and enjoys a faithful group of fans, many of whom followed him to the vineyard for his video shoot.

Fan Carol Celik thinks Hodge's music is classic.

"His music is very relaxing and beautiful," she said.

Hodge plays at Loughlin Vineyard nearly every Saturday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.  Gigs for the rest of Hodge's summer include being flown to Ohio for a weekend of shows at the vineyard, "Vino Where You Live," and an afternoon set at the Bay Shore Bandshell.
