A dump truck carrying scrap metal overturned on the Nicolls Road ramp in Patchogue Tuesday afternoon.

The truck, operated by Medford-based Brook Trailer Service, had been heading eastbound on Sunrise Highway before overturning near the entrance of the northbound Nicolls Road ramp a little after noon.

The driver escaped the truck uninjured. The ramp, however, is expected to be closed for a while this afternoon as cleanup takes place.

Traffic in the area has been backed up just past the accident scene as those motorists intending to head north on Nicolls are lining up to turn left at the Waverly Avenue intersection.

We need the police to start watching the trucks. The bully everybody on the road. They go 80 plus miles an hour. The dump trucks are constantly hauling stuff uncovered (the law states even empty the cover has to be there).

They even honk at you if your not doing 70 like they are. They are now even starting to ride the left lane which is also illegal.

I agree with majortom1981, Trucks are constantly driving to fast and are a major cause to many accidents. Not all truck driver are irresponsible some are very careful
when on highways.

I also agree with majortom 1981. These trucks are always speeding and will come within a few feet of your bumper if you don't move out of their way, even if they see a line of cars in front of you. Despite this behavior never once have I seen one get pulled over.
